Reflections from SLC47: The Power of Connected Leadership in Action
On March 17, I had the privilege of facilitating the Connected Conversations sessions at the 2026 Simmons Leadership Conference (#SLC47), gatherings designed to help leaders pause, reflect, and make meaning of what they were hearing throughout the day.
What unfolded in those rooms, both in the morning and afternoon, was a powerful reminder: connection is not something we simply talk about as leaders. It is something we practice.
Across each session, leaders showed up not just to listen, but to engage. To share honestly. To question thoughtfully. To build on one another’s ideas. In doing so, the theme of The Connected Leader moved beyond concept and came to life in real time.
Insight #1: Connection Requires Intention and Space
One of the clearest patterns I observed was this: connection does not happen by accident. It requires space.
In a day filled with inspiring speakers and big ideas, these conversations created a moment to slow down. Leaders had time to process, reflect, and ask themselves: What does this mean for me? For my team? For the way I lead?
When leaders are given even a small amount of intentional space, something shifts. The conversation deepens. Insights become more personal. Learning becomes something shared, not just absorbed.
Insight #2: Meaning Is Made Together
Another powerful takeaway was that the most impactful insights did not come from any one voice. They emerged through collective sense-making.
Leaders built on each other’s reflections, offered new perspectives, and surfaced connections that may not have been visible alone. In these moments, leadership became less about having the answer and more about being in conversation, grounded in curiosity, openness, and trust.
This is the essence of connected leadership: not leading in isolation, but creating the conditions where people can think, reflect, and move forward together.
Where We Go From Here
What we experienced in those sessions is not meant to be a one-day occurrence. It is a way of leading. A way of working. A way of being in relationship with others.
My hope is that you carry this forward by creating moments of pause, inviting reflection, and making space for conversations that truly matter. In a world that moves quickly, the leaders who make time to connect deeply and intentionally are the ones who create lasting impact.
I’m looking forward to continuing this journey with SLC47 attendees through Thrive365, starting with our Connected Leader Live session on April 14 and continuing again on July 21. There is so much more to explore together.
